SZEGED CATHEDRAL VISITOR CENTRE
Opening of Korean Arts Exhibition
Traditional: Yong Chul Jang
The 12th St. Gellert International Festival of Music 2019 is celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Republic of Korea between 21st and 30th of September this year.
Accordingly in numerous concerts, Hungarian and Korean artists will perform side by side – for example Mozart Concerto for 2 Pianos and Orchestra with young well known Hungarian pianist Boros Misi and also a rising star from Korea, Suyeon Kim.
And to highlight the event beyond music, the festival will also feature an exhibition of the paintings by Korean artist Yong-Chul Jang who, despite the modern trends, dedicates himself solely and fully to the style of Korean traditional art which emerged more than 2000 years ago.
The main theme of his works is the inseparable relationship between men and mountains which according to the artist has been the essence of Eastern culture ever since the dawn of its history. To borrow artist’s own words:
“If you divide the relationship between man and mountain into two, one is water path from the mountains and the other is paths created by the human foot. Man’s footsteps make ways. At first, it was a mountain path and then a village road was formed, and the roads connected the entire land to create a culture.
The flow of water from the mountain flowed to create life and civilization. Water flows from every part of the mountain, and it flows into a valley, through a waterfall, back into a river, and into the sea. The process resembles the arduous journey of human life.”
One would have a unique chance to understand and feel this Asian philosophy by visiting the exhibition of his thirty representative paintings which are flown in directly from Korea just for the art lovers of Szeged.
The exhibition will have an official opening on Saturday the 21st at 18:30 PM and will close at 18:00 PM onf Friday the 27th. The location will be at the Visitor Centre at Szeged Dom.
The artist Yong-Chul Jang is presently the president of the Nowon Art Association and professor at Baek-Seok Arts University.
